Polly's fantasical 55 things for inside days.

So for about the past week I've been lock-down-quarantine-don't-go-outside-and-kill-everyone sick. I miss work. I miss my friends. I miss the general outside world. So I've had to make my own fun. True, I may be a tad delusional by this point, but I've surprisingly been having a very gleeful time, oddly enough. Any who, here are 100 ideas for things (almost all attempted by me over the past few days) to do if you are stuck inside like myself and bored out of your little heads.
  1. Cut out pictures of random people from magazines. Write stories about them.
  2. Make every meal a really extravagant affair. Cook something new and elaborate. Light candles. Set the mood.
  3. Write a list of 100 questions. Inspired by this.
  4. Decide on wacky tattoo designs. Draw them on yourself.
  5. Dress up in finery. Have a one person tea-party.
  6. Write letters to your heroes as if they were your best friend.
  7. Make postcards for all your friends. Pretend you're in Morocco.
  8. Create an alter ego. Dress up like them. Write everything you possibly can about them.
  9. Clean and/or organise a room (a lot more fun then it sounds)
  10. Find an obscure music genre (or band) that you would never normal listen to. Listen to them non stop all day and cultivate an appreciation.
  11. Write poems.
  12. Stretch a lot. Do (or if you're like me, attempt to do) yoga. Try contorting (and if you're especially like me, end up collapsed on the floor giggling at your attempts)
  13. Make a list of books you want to read. Join a site like Bookmooch and track them down. While you're there, post books you don't want any more that you discovered whilst doing #9.
  14. Create a blog. Ha.
  15. Find a new TV show. Watch the whole series (or season) in one sitting.
  16. Think up crazy movie plot lines and plan out the posters.
  17. Join a site like My Happy Planet and learn a few different phrases to pepper your everyday dialogue with to make you seem worldly. Or like a jerk.
  18. Make your own paint by numbers.
  19. Stencil a bunch of old clothes, or make patches and sew them places.
  20. Tear up all your old magazines. Make a collage.
  21. Write lots and lots of lists of anything you can think of (e.g. '5 reasons I love pillows', '25 uses for a teapot'). Be as obscure and creative as possible.
  22. Create detailed instructions for extraordinarily simple, everyday activities.
  23. Watch a biography of someone you've never heard of. Become their biggest fan.
  24. Make a town out of origami.
  25. Look at your wardrobe. Make new outfit combinations you've never tried.
  26. Research upcoming events in your city. Plan a whole bunch of fun days out.
  27. Dance. Then dance more.
  28. Pretend you have a talk show. What sort of guests would you have? What sort of hard hitting issues would you tackle with the utmost journalistic integrity *ahem*?
  29. Finger paint.
  30. Write a letter to your future self.
  31. Find a really thick, intense book. Immerse yourself in it.
  32. Create a children's book based on explicit adult concepts.
  33. Paint your nails with outrageous designs.
  34. Learn the history of your favourite food.
  35. Look up what historical events have taken place today. Celebrate and/or mourn them.
  36. Play a game like online pictionary.
  37. Browse Etsy. Or make your own store.
  38. Invent a new food. Name it after yourself.
  39. Make play dough (Oh oh! 2 years and older?! I fit into that age bracket! And I would totally eat maybe all of those. Is that weird?)
  40. Reverse your daily routine. Have dinner in the morning, etc.
  41. Compose a lavish love letter to yourself.
  42. Memorise some dialogue from your favourite movie.
  43. Learn a dance routine or a song from your favourite musical and/or music video.
  44. Dress up. Put on some alluring music. Perform a strip tease for yourself.
  45. Choreograph a dance.
  46. Find episodes of your favourite childhood shows online. Watch them and reminisce.
  47. Draw portraits of people you know or are interested in.
  48. If you were to make an album, what instrument would you play? Would anyone else be in your band? What sort of music would it be? What is the tracklist? What is the cover art?
  49. Embroider, knit, crochet.
  50. Cut your hair.
  51. Have a séance.
  52. Read tea leaves.
  53. Watch lots of documentaries.
  54. Learn how to read palms.
  55. Try juggling.

How to: love a record.

What you need:
- an awe inspiring record
- a record player
- solitude
- optional: candles
- optional: red wine

Step 1:
Light candles. Close door. Sever all communication with the outside world.

Step 2:
Pick up record. Run hands over front cover. Inspect every detail. Admire the artwork.

Step 3:
Turn over to back cover. Repeat step 2.

Step 4:
Delicately place record on turntable. Turn on record player. Gently lower needle.

Step 5:
Close eyes. Let the music fill the room. Engulf yourself in chosen artist.

Step 6:
Sit back. Enjoy the revolutions. Drink wine. Imagine you are there.

Step 7:
When side A finishes, flip to side B. Repeat steps 5 through 6.

Step 8:
Reflect. Savor the quality time you and chosen artist have spent together (in my case, this was one of the many dates me and Lou Reed have shared)

Love and rockets.

Things to do everyday.

I got this idea from the wonderful Keri Smith and the poem '10 things I do everyday' by Ted Berrigan.

Here's a list of 8 things I do everyday (yes i could only think of 8)

1. Listen to a piece of music.
2. Touch your toes.
3. Give a compliament.
4. Drink green tea.
5. Write down something I'm grateful for.
6. Learn a new word.
7. Laugh.
8. Create something (words, art, memories).

Here is an extremely poor quality photo from my journal to prove it:

Love Letters

This week's love letters is brought to you by drugstore nail polish, grandfather's wardrobe, and the letter A.

Au pairs. Listening to them a lot lately. Especially the song 'Come again', so fun! Makes me dance and wriggle.

Albert Camus. One of my favourite authors and I'm about halfway through 'The Fall'. Lovely.

Ant farms. I know someone who bought one but hasn't set it up yet. I'm going to have to force her.

Animal print lingerie. No explanation needed.

A word a day. I like www.wordsmith.org. Terete: Smooth-surfaced, cylindrical, and tapering at the ends. Hehe, I bet that comes in use often.

Aioli. On hot chips, there are no words. I could just eat bowls of it by itself anyway.

Love and rockets.
xoxo.
